When & why did you start fishing?

I began fishing as early as I can remember. Fishing is a hobby introduced to me by both sides of my family including sea fishing, lure fishing and fly fishing! Going with family members when I was young was where it all began.

Your best fishing trip experience?

It’s hard to narrow it down to just one. In recent times, the first day of the 20/21 trout season is definitely a contender! With two fish on my first two casts of the season, I knew I was going to be in for a good day and many followed shortly after! The venue was a wild and remote Lake District reservoir!
Looking back, experiences such as deep sea fishing for Marlin, salmon fishing on the lune and even winning an under 16 sea angling championship all stand out! Another great moment was catching a blue perch; this fish got me a section on the Angling Times and their news desk said they had never seen anything like it before!

 

Which are your usual fishing venues?

I try to target wild trout more than anything and this involves a degree of hiking and exploration! I fish a lot of inaccessible Lake District waters, and perhaps what I’m best known for on YouTube is my targeting of high altitude Lake District tarns. These are small lakes nestled in the mountains, some completely empty but some with excellent populations of wild brown trout in spectacular surroundings! I’m also partial to a bit of Piking, mostly on the Lancaster canal and the Leeds & Liverpool canal!

List your target fish breeds?

Wild brown trout, perch and pike take the top three by a country mile!
Other fish I like to catch include chub, salmon, grayling and anything else I can get to take a lure! 

Preferred fishing methods?

I’m a lure angler through and through. I do occasionally dabble in a bit of sea angling, fly fishing and bait fishing but most of the time you’ll catch me with a spinning rod in my hand!

Favourite fishing baits?

1. Rapala countdown 5cm (gold or silver)

2. Salmo hornet 3.5cm (trout pattern)

3. Any simple spinner that spins, it doesn’t have to be fancy!

What fishing ambitions do you still have?

This summer I’m planning on launching a guiding business in the Lake District, with emphasis on wild lure fishing for brown trout. These trips will focus on targeting seldom fished wild waters set amongst the mountain surroundings of what I consider to be the most beautiful place in England!
In addition, I hope to continue the fast growth of my YouTube channel Adventure Fishing UK. I have strong links to the travel rod company ‘Rigged and ready’ and there is even talk of filming a pilot for a fishing TV series/documentary in the Lake District. I also plan to continue with an annual charity fishing fundraiser. In 2019 I raised over £600 for cancer research and in 2020 I raised over £600 for mental health charity ‘Mind UK’! 

Any advice to new anglers?

Stick at it! Remember, keep things simple and you’ll catch fish. I would highly recommend starting a YouTube channel to anyone who is even slightly considering it. This way you can have a video to remember your fishing trips by, share them with the world and it might even lead to exciting opportunities for you! 

Interesting facts about yourself?

As well as fishing I play a few musical instruments including the drums, guitar and my personal favourite, the banjolele! I’m currently in the last few weeks of uni, studying business economics at the University of Liverpool.
