Morgans, Woodstock and School Pool

Woodstock Pool

Woodstock Pool is a 3 acre man-made lake situated in the same complex as Morgans Pond which has benefited from a re-stocking program that commence in 2005 when a number of F1’s, Mirrors and skimmer have been introduced providing some good all-round sport. All methods work well and some very big carp are there to be caught. There are resident fish in the mid to upper-twenties with boilies being the best choice of bait. Bream are also present in good numbers with the odd fish pushing that elusive 10lb mark. Tench up to 5-6lb can often be caught on corn or pellet, as usual early morning is probably best. There are also a few pike which can offer sport on lures and spinners during the winter months.

Morgans Pond and School Pool

Morgans Pond is a 5 acre man-made lake situated in the same complex as Woodstock Pool and consistently provides traditional lake fishing with good bags of bream that can include huge slabs. Best baits include pellet and corn with good fish falling to worm or bread. Take a bit of everything….its bream fishing and they like a bit of variety. Tench are also present to 7lb plus and good traditional baits such as bread, or sweetcorn presented close in very early on a summer morning can prove very  successful.

There is a good head of roach and rudd for those who fancy a day of the silver fish. Try hemp and caster or even pellet in the summer as it can produce fish to a pound. There are quite a few crucians present and these have been caught up to 4lb but they come out of the blue so be prepared for a nice surprise if you get a few. There are also a few Pike present which can fall to a lure as well as a static deadbait.

School Pool is the result of splitting Morgans at its narrowest point and the ‘old’  areas of animal bay and school bay have now been segregated from the main lake by a steel mesh barrier. The new pool has around 25 pegs and is stocked with several thousand commons, mirrors and F1s up to 2lb. It has already shown its potential and produced bags of 25lb plus when it was iced over in 2010. It’s already a popular venue with anglers of all abilities and offers commercial style pleasure fishing at a fraction of the cost. Segregating School Pool means the club can continue to offer the rest of Morgans Pond as a traditional fishery.
